今週の世界の研究所は、英国のOxford大学発ベンチャー Reaction Engines 社をとりあげます。私は以前からこの会社に注目していましたが、先週倒産してしまいました。

空気の流れを制御することによりジェットエンジンの冷却を行う技術を開発していて、速い航空機（大きな用途は軍用でしょう）や宇宙機に使えると思っていたので残念です。
原理は、今年の暑い時期に紹介したvortex cooler（Ranque-Hilshの渦動流効果）の応用だと思いますが、詳細は要調査です。

今週は、高温下の冷却・断熱・耐熱技術を見ていきます。帰還する宇宙飛行士が乗る乗り物だけでなく、ガスタービンの羽根など、応用は幅広いです。
