先週のニュースで気になったものとして、スイスアルプスでの氷河の崩壊がありました。動画も上がっていますが、9万立米の氷と土石が落ちてきたとのことです。
その10日前の5月19日に村の300人の住人はほぼ避難していたそうですが、1人行方不明だそうです。

土石流で堰止湖ができ、それが決壊すると予想されているため下流の町で避難が行われているそうです。被害が小さいことを祈ります。
スイスには氷河の挙動を観測している研究所があります。Wald(Forest), Schnee(Snow) und(and) Landschaft(Landscape) で WSLという名前です。

ドイツ語パンフレットの斜め読みでは660人くらいの所員がいるようです。9部門のうち2つが氷河・雪・災害に関連しています。実際の氷河で実験ができる施設もあります。

スイスの人口は890万人、一人当たりGDP（～子供や老人も入れた給料の平均値）は日本の3倍の10万ドルです。中立国を宣言していて、食料自給や重軍備（皆兵制）を行っているため、物価は高いです。
食料とエネルギーが自給できるだけの人口に抑えて十分な軍備があれば国際情勢にあまり影響されないでやっていける（江戸時代の日本のように）という例の一つだと思います。
通貨水準を決めている、世界とやり取りする産業は金融(UBS, Credit Suisse, Zurich Insurance) ,食品(Nesle),製薬（RocheとNovartisがBasel本社）でしょうか。下記によると時計が三番目？のようなのでどこかに割り込むのでしょう。
