図２はAFM（原子間力顕微鏡）像ですが、直径1μmのニコニコマークが多数ばらまかれている映像(Fig.2e)は衝撃的でした。

先行研究があって、もっと短いDNAを使って組み合わさる辺を作って八面体を作ったというのが2004年に出ています。

着想は単純で、DNAの４つの塩基ATGCはAとT,GとCがくっついて二重らせんになるので、一本鎖DNAの塩基配列を一定の間隔ごとに直線的にくっつくように作っておけば、
一次元の紐が折りたたまれて平面図形を作るように自在な構造を作れるだろう、というものです。
DNAの配列は自在に作ることができ、PCR等で増やすこともできるので設計通りのナノ構造を量産するには良い方法だと思います。
しかし、20年経ってもなかなかキラーアプリが出てきませんでした。月曜日に紹介したガン細胞を光らせるという応用が役立つといいのですが…
安定性を議論する上で、塩基対の相互作用がどのくらい強いのか、気になります。設計の方法とも関連するようなので、20年間の進歩を含め、明日以降調べてみたいと思います。
