Boeing（ボーイング社）で大規模なストライキが行われているというニュースがあります。

大型のジェット機は1機500億円と言われています（ちなみに、波長10nmの最先端の半導体露光装置も同じくらいの値段なので驚きます）。
Boeing社は、コロナ禍に加え最近737MAXの設計ミスで墜落事故を何件か起こしてしまって経営状態が悪化し、それが従業員にしわ寄せされた結果だと推測します。20000人、30000人規模で立て続けにリストラやレイオフをしているようです。
調べてみると、航空機メーカーや運航をする航空会社は頻繁に経営危機に陥っています。これは巨額の商品を扱うことによる構造的な問題だと思われますが、経営の歴史を学ぶことでいろいろなかじ取りの勘どころが捕まえられる可能性があります。将来の選択肢に乏しい私には一種の娯楽にすぎませんが、若い人たちには参考になるのではないでしょうか。今週は下記の本を参考に航空機ビジネスについて見てみましょう。
Boeing（発音は「ボ」ウイング）は創立者の人名で、1916年米国ワシントン州シアトルで創業です。シアトルは太平洋岸の北の港町ですが、 Microsoft, Boeing, Amazon, Starbucksなど世界的な企業がたくさんあります。なぜここなのかも興味があります。Boeingは本社を2023年にバージニア州Crystal Cityに移したそうです。
