金曜日の読書 “Hillbilly Elegy”の著者の母親はかなり問題がある人物で、父親役の人はしょっちゅう替わっていました。支えになったのは祖母です。祖母は14才で妊娠したため17才の祖父と駆け落ち同様にケンタッキー州のアパラチアの山を降りてオハイオ州の新設工業地帯に移住します。移住後生まれた子供はすぐなくなってしまいますが、著者はこの子の存在が移住に決定的に重要だったと解析しています。2章は祖父母の話を中心に語られます。
英語で面白い表現を見ていきましょう。
