電顕でタンパク質を見ようと思い立ち、15年(1975-1990)頑張って筋道をつけたのがイギリスのProf. Richard Hendersonで、タンパク質を低温にすれば電子線で破壊されないことを示しました。
急速に水溶液を冷やすことによって氷の結晶が邪魔しないようにする（アモルファスにする）方法を開発した(液体窒素で冷やしたエタンに突っ込む)のが昨日のProf. Dubochet、
そしていろいろな向きを向いたタンパク質分子の多数の画像を組み合わせて3次元の立体像を作るソフトを開発したのが米国のDr. Joachim Frankです。このソフトがなければここまで普及はしなかったでしょうね。
このソフトの簡易版を作るのはプログラムの練習問題として面白そうです。どうやっているか、明日アルゴリズムを調べてみましょう。

agile 敏捷な =able to move quickly and easily 「アジャイル開発」など、ソフトウェア工学の用語になっています。
acute 急性の病気の、深刻な問題の、強い痛みの、知覚が敏感な 日本語にない概念です。
an acute problem is very serious, an acute feeling is very strong, an acute illness or disease quickly becomes very serious, acute senses such as hearing, taste, touch etc are very good and sensitive
hurried = 主観が入ります。急いだ done more quickly than usual, because you do not have much time
hasty = 拙速の deciding or doing something very quickly, especially when this has bad results
expeditious = 効果的に急いで in a quick and effective way
brisk = quick and energetic
fleeting = lasting for only a short time むしろ short の類義語です。
