今週の世界の研究所は、今年9月14日に米国NASDAQ市場に再上場を行ったarm社です。1975年に英国で設立されたベンチャーがもとになっています。

自分では半導体の製造を行わないで、CPUとその周辺回路の設計図（トランジスタの接続等）を売ることにより収益を上げています。携帯電話などで高いシェアを持っており、車載コンピュータや通常のCPUにも進出しています。2016年にソフトバンクが3.3兆円で買収した時は話題になりましたが、まだ株価が乱高下中ですがかなり現在の価値は上がっていて（最終的な時価総額予測は4~10兆円と人によって幅がある）、株を上手く売れれば利益になると予想されています。
