今週の世界の研究所は、米国のWolfspeed社(最近までCree社という名前でした）をとりあげます。ここは、SiC（炭化ケイ素）やGaN（窒化ガリウム）を用いた電子デバイスで世界をけん引しています。本社と工場はNorth Carolina 州にあります。本社住所がSilicon Drive（ケイ素通り）4600番地、というのはしゃれています。

“Following a massive four-year transformation, involving the divestiture of two-thirds of the business and a repositioning of the company’s overall core strategy, Cree, Inc. officially changed its name to Wolfspeed, Inc.” 事業の2/3をやめたというのはすごいです。GaN LEDは分社化（Cree-LED社）しています。事業を分社化・売却して、1兆円の工場を作ってSiCのパワー半導体に全振りしたのでしょう。SiCの良い結晶は現在彼らしか量産できないので、世界中で争奪戦だそうです。勉強になりますね。
