今週の世界の研究所は、米国カリフォルニア州の Moss Landing Marine Laboratories を取り上げます。ここは、カリフォルニア州立のSan Jose State University（1857設立）が運営し、23校のカリフォルニア州立大学機構が共同参画している海洋学の研究所です。Moss Landingは地名のようです。

先週、鉄の入ったインクが登場しましたが、いろいろ調べていたら、「海に鉄イオンが増えると植物プランクトンが増えて二酸化炭素の吸収量が増える、これが氷河期の原因だ、だから二酸化炭素を減らしたければ鉄イオンを撒けばよい」という”Martinの鉄仮説(1990)”を提唱したJohn H. Martin博士(1935-1993)がこの研究所に在籍していました。今週は、鉄の入ったインクについて解説してから、Martinの鉄仮説がどうなったか、について調べていきます。
