今週の碧巌録は、Case #80 趙州初生孩子(Chao Chou’s Newborn Baby) です。生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんに「六識」があるか？という問答です。答は「急流にボールを打つようなものだ」「そのこころは？」「流れて留まることがない」。存在はしているが句読点がない思考だと言っている、と私は解釈しました。わかりやすいと思います。
「六識」は、眼識、耳識、鼻識、舌識、身識、意識 の６つで、外界との相互作用を持つ知的存在かどうか？だと思います。
禅問答では、知性の定義と範囲に関する有名な公案がいくつかあります。「犬に「仏性」があるか？ 狗子仏性」が例です。仏性、は「仏としての本性」という意味だそうです。

これは人工知性が出現しつつある現在～近未来において重要な問です。日本の漫画がこの点ではかなり先を行っていて、ロボットと結婚した人の家庭生活を描写したものを最近面白く読みました。また、米国の人気テレビドラマにも宇宙船団で人間そっくりのロボットが暗躍する話があり、関連させると興味がわきます（道元：正法眼蔵 ～1253年など。大部ですが800年前とは思えない考察があり、いずれ取り上げたいです）。
