今週の「碧巌録」は本文が最も短いCase #19 倶胝指頭禅 です。倶胝和尚(Master Chu Ti)という人がいて、どのような問を立てられても指を一本立てて答にしたという逸話です。また、臨終のときに集まった弟子たちに「この最強の技を会得したが一生かけてもすべてを使いつくせなかった。なぜだか知りたいか？」と告げ、指を一本立てて息を引き取ったとのこと。
この話は想像力をかき立てるようで、webにいろいろな解説が落ちています。また、「碧巌録」本文の解説では、物事には急所となるタイミングがあり、そこでは小さい労力ですべてを変えることができる、とあります（と、私が解釈した）。指を一本立てるタイミングが絶妙だったということでしょうか。実践は難しいですが、真理の深い機微を含んでいるように思います。
英訳本から単語と表現を拾ってみます。
Whenever anything was asked, Master Chu Ti would just raise one finger. “would”は習慣を表す”will”の過去形です。
When one speck of dust arises,the great earth is contained therein. 一片の塵が舞い上がるとき、その中に大地が含まれる。（注目する人の意識の上では、という意味でしょう）

Chu Ti welcomed him ceremoniously and gave a full account of the previous events. (The guest high priest) Tien Lun just lifted up one finger to show him; suddenly Chu Ti was greatly enlightened.

Generally people these days are not this way; they just indulge in（おぼれる） conceptual（概念的） and emotional（感情的） interpretations（解釈）, and don’t understand what is most essential with these Ancients. How could Chu Ti have had no other devices to switch to？(どうして他の方法が使えなかったと思うか？） Why did he just employ one finger? You must realize （気づく）that here is where Chu Ti helps people so profoundly （深く） and intimately（親切に）. （一つの型を極めろ、という主張だと思います）
