金曜日の読書、「碧巌録（英語名 Blue Clif Records)」をやろうとしています。100個の禅問答が載っている本です。解説書によると順序は緻密に構成されているそうですが、難解です。私は外国人に宗教は何かと聞かれると、zen buddistだと答えているので、質問されて答えられないと恥ずかしいのでいろいろ本を読んでいます。禅は、インドから菩提達磨（Bodhidharma、ぼだいだるま、だるま人形のモデル）が西暦520年（479年以前という説もある）に中国にやってきて「面壁九年」をしたことで有名になり広まったようです。碧巌録の中にも「達磨大師が中国に来た意味はなにか？」というものが複数あって、その問答が警策（けいさく、きょうさく）でたたき合う結果に終わるものもあり（第二十則）、そういえばそういうのがドリフターズのコントにあったな、と面白く読みました。解説書によると深い意味があるそうです（難解でしょう？）

The most popular account relates that Bodhidharma was admitted into the Shaolin temple（少林寺） after nine years in the cave （「ケ」イヴ、洞窟）and taught there for some time. However, … other versions report that his legs atrophied after nine years of sitting, which is why Daruma dolls have no legs.
