今週の世界の研究所は、イタリアのトリエステにあるAbdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physicsを紹介します。ここは、素粒子理論でノーベル賞を取ったパキスタン出身のSalamの提案で設立されました。物理や数学の研究や賞の選考の他に高等教育が充実していない国の学生を選んで（年数人です、どうやって選ぶのでしょうか）他国の博士課程入学のための証明書を出す活動も行っています。

These people are one step away from the top. Also, it is used to refer to only one such person with those responsibilities.
Deputy- stresses ‘delegated or appointed to act for another person’. Used more than ‘vice’ in business. May be for people with lower authority. Example: deputy manager, deputy sheriff. This is used to refer to multiple people representing the same position.
