楕円関数は、二つの周期をもつため、二次元の結晶の波動関数を表すのに使えそうではないでしょうか。複雑な物質については計算機で数値解を求めるのでまず使われませんが、単純化した二次元スピン系（イジングモデル）の解析に応用され、相転移の挙動の厳密解が得られています(1944年）。これを行ったL.Onsargerは別件(非平衡熱力学）でノーベル賞をもらっていますが、この業績もプラスになっているでしょう、と学生の時に統計力学の授業で習いました。

その後、三次元への拡張が長年（76年余り）試みられていますが、いまのところ三次元の厳密解は得られていません。
その点、四元数を変数とする数学（例えば楕円関数の拡張）はまだ応用数学としては研究余地があるように思います。いろいろ検索すると、最近同じことを考えている人がいるようですので、誰かが突破口を開くかもしれません。私も考えてみたいですが、若さ（一点への集中力）が必要なように思います。面白そうな問題はたくさんあって、我々を待っています。

stimulate ス「ティ」ミュれイト は「刺激する」です。

4. intriguing: イント「リー」ギング
interesting because of being unusual, mysterious, or unexpected, so that you want to find out more
不思議で面白い、好奇心をそそる、おつな。研究に対して使うこともあります。

These discoveries raise intriguing questions about the relationship between viral genes and the normal genes of the cell.
5. absorbing/engrossing： interesting in a way that keeps your attention completely or for a long time
没頭させる（ほど面白い）、面白くてはまる

6. gripping/riveting/compelling: used about a very interesting story, film etc that you feel you must keep reading or watching 目を離せない面白さ
gripはバットやラケットの「握り（にぎり）」 動詞は「しっかりつかむ、握る」
rivet は、飛行機の羽根などで、板を相互に固定する鋲（びょう）のようなもの。

飛行機の外殻には丸いものが周期的に並んでいるのが見えると思います。飛行機は溶接でなく、リベット打ちで作られています。理由は今のところ溶接個所の信頼性を調べる簡単な方法がないからです。リベットは金属疲労で折れそうになれば超音波等でわかります。rivet 動詞は「リベットで留める」 日本語でも「面白くて釘付け（くぎづけ）になる」という言い方がありますね。
compelは「強要する」という意味の動詞

7. enthralling：エンす「ロー」りング：very interesting and exciting – used especially about a performance you are watching or listening to 演技などが面白い
Pakistan won an enthralling match by two wickets. “wickets”はクリケットの用語。
8. spellbinding: ス「ペ」るバインディング very interesting because of being so strange, unusual, or wonderful
spell 呪文＋bind 縛る で、文字通りですね。とても変わっていて面白い
The book is a spellbinding tale of her life in China.
9. I couldn’t put it down: (spoken) used when saying that a book was so interesting that you could not stop reading it 文字通りですね。これは形容詞ではないと思いますが、なぜか書いてあります
