今週の「武士道」は、2章 Sources of Bushido (武士道の淵源）の続きです。
What Buddhism failed to give, Shintoism offered in abundance. Such loyalty to the sovereign, such reverence for ancestral memory, and such filial piety are not taught by any other creed, were inculcated by the Shito doctrines, imparting passivity to the otherwise arrogant character of the samurai…. Everybody has observed that the Shito shrines conspicuously devoid of objects and instruments of worship, and that a plain mirror hung in the sanctuary forms the essential part of its furnishing. The presence of this article is easy to explain: it typifies the human heart, which , when perfectly placid and clear, reflects the very image of the Deity. … the act of worship is tantamount to the old Delphic injunction, “Know Thyself”.

piety 「パイ」エティ 敬虔、孝行、この辺はなぜか古い和訳（皇室について書いてある）とは文章が違います。

inculcate 説き聞かせる、繰り返し教え込む、植え付ける（level 16)
doctrine 「ド」クトリン 教義
impart イン「パー」ト 分け与える、授ける、伝える
passivity 受動性
arrogant 「ア」ロガント 傲慢な
conspicuously コンス「ピ」キュアスり 著しく、目立って （副詞ですが動詞的に和訳すると自然になる場合です。「吊るされた質素な鏡の他には礼拝対象や礼拝用具が除かれているのが目立つ」）
http://www.jta-net.or.jp/useful_tools7.html#SEC13 には、many とsomeはこうやってもよいと書いてありますが、他の副詞はテストではダメかもしれません。
