若い人は知らないかもしれませんが、2002年9月に、タカラ（現・タカラトミー）からバウリンガル(Bow-Lingual)というおもちゃが発売されました。犬の首輪に装着したワイヤレスマイクの信号を本体が受けて、解釈します。「フラストレーション」「威嚇」「自己表現」「楽しい」「悲しい」「欲求」の6種類の感情が表示されたそうです。当時、これには驚きました。14800円が半年で30万個（44億円、そこでほぼ終わり）売れたヒット商品となり、イグノーベル賞「平和賞」を受賞しています。2009年に新型を出しましたが、この売り上げは不明です。そのあとiphoneアプリ版が出ています。

今は、スマホアプリ等としていろいろなところが出していて、タカラトミーは撤退しているようですね。しかし現在でもバウリンガルが最も優れているというweb siteがありました。

バウリンガルは人間が声紋パターンと状況の結びつきを解析したそうですが、いまならビデオと音声を合わせて機械学習で状況と発声を関連づけるのでしょう。動物園の様子をAIに見せておくとわかるようになるかもしれません。人間で訓練しておいて、転移学習させるとうまくいくような気がします。
