進化論のダーウィン(Charles Darwin 1809-1882)の経歴と仕事ぶりは興味深いです。上流の医者の子供で食べるには困らなかったようですが、大学を2つ卒業していて、1831-1836（22才～27才）の間ビーグル号（HMS Beagle)の第二回の世界一周の探査に参加しています。（このころの？）イギリスの裕福な人は若い時に冒険をする文化のように見えます（いずれ取り上げます）。1859年に種の起源（On the Origin of Species）を出版しています。最晩年まで研究を続け、ミミズの研究（詳しい生態と土を作る役割の定量的研究、研究レポートの模範としてよく取り上げられます）を出版しています。wikipedia にはDarwinに関するページがたくさんあります。
