金曜日の読書について、アップル社の元重役の start up （ベンチャー企業）に関する本を考えていたのですが、Hillbilly Elegyと同じくらい現代アメリカにかかわる濃い内容なので、少し変えて気楽なものにしたくなりました。今年のノーベル経済学賞受賞者3人のうちの2人(D. Acemoglu & J.A. Robinson)による”Why Nations Fail – The Origin of Power, Prosperity, and poverty”（国家はなぜ衰退するのか）を読みましょう。これも実は重い話ですが、共感すると心が苦しくなるような著者の個人的体験は少ないだろうと予想します。15章からなっています。
国家形態や制度と経済発展との関係を歴史の例から調べています。現代日本についての記述はないようですが、近未来の諸問題の考察のヒントになるといいと思います。
序章は、2011年の「アラブの春」を説明しながら、エジプトがなぜ貧しい国になったのかという理由がその政治制度にあったという自説を提示しています。第1章以降、色々な国の歴史にふれながら説明していくようです。
