金曜日の読書「五輪書」は「地の巻」第3回目です。ちょっと前後しますが、まず二刀流が優れている点の説明から。
「一命を捨る時は、道具を残さず役にたてたきもの也。道具を役にたてず腰に納めて死する事、本意に有るべからず。然れども、両手に物を持事、左右共に自由には叶ひがたし。太刀を片手にとりならはせんため也。・・・太刀を両手にて持てあしきこと、馬上にてあしし。かけ走時あしし、沼、深田、石原、険しき道、人ごみにあしし。」
If you are going to die in battle, it is desirable to utilize all weapons you are carrying. It is deplorable to die with weapons left in their scabbards without having been capable of using them…
Holding a large sword with two hands is a disadvantage when fighting on horseback, when fighting on the run, when fighiting in marshy terrain, in a deep rice paddy, on stony ground, ona steep road, or when you are in the midst of a melee.

※太刀を片手で持てるようになると有利なので、訓練のため二刀流にした、というわけです。必死にあがいてぎりぎりを攻めようとすると合理的な最適解が見つかるという例だと思います。
「地の巻」の結びとして、兵法を会得するための9か条の心得を述べています。
(1)よこしまなき事を思ふ所、 Think of that which is not evil.
(2)道の鍛錬する所、 Train in the way.
(3)諸芸にさはる所、 Take an interest in all the arts.
(4)諸職の道を知る事、 Know the way of professions.
(5)物毎の損得をわきまゆる事、 Know how to appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of each thing.
(6)諸事目利を仕覚る事、 Learn to judge the quality of each thing.
(7)目に見えぬ所をさとつて知る事、 Perceive and understand that which is not visible from outside.
(8)わづかなる事にも気を付る事、 Be attentive even to minimal things.
(9)役にたたぬ事をせざる事。 Do not perform useless acts.
※いいことを言っていますね。どれも現代にも通じるところがあると思います。
が、私は、(5)(9)、特に(9)を守らないですむように仕事を選びました。今が平和な時代でよかったです。
